The video was found by researchers at the Center for Human Rights of the National University of Seoul in the United States National Archives and was likely shot in September 1944 in front of a so-called 'comfort station' - a euphemism for the brothels used by Japanese imperial troops in Songshan in China's southern Yunnan province. In the clip, one woman appears to be talking to a Chinese soldier, while the rest are looking into the camera or at the ground with frightened expressions. The 18-second, black and white silent clip shows seven Korean women standing in front of several American and Chinese soldiers, who were fighting against the Japanese occupation. South Korea Monday released what could be the first known video footage of comfort women, or sex slaves, who were allegedly sexually exploited by the Japanese army during the Second World War.
